It didn’t start with a business plan.
It started with two compliments on my personal style in the same day.
I’d always had creative outlets — painting on weekends, a potter’s wheel in the garage — but I’d never sketched a garment in my life. That night I pulled out my markers and started drawing clothes. My mom lent me her home sewing machine. I bought fabric. I learned on YouTube.
The first pair of pants took eight hours and weren’t great.
For the past two years, I've sewn a new garment nearly every week.
The philosophy behind SÔZ Studios came from something personal. When my daughter developed eczema we started researching better fabrics — organic cotton, natural fibers, materials that actually work with your body. I looked at what existed in menswear and found plenty of natural fiber brands, but nothing that matched how I wanted to dress. Everything felt too granola, too utilitarian. I wanted timeless, elevated garments built entirely from natural and organic fibers. So I built them.
I make every pattern by hand. I sew every reference sample myself. When a design gets enough attention — a compliment on the street, interest from a buyer — that’s the signal it’s ready for production. I bring it to my factory partner in Los Angeles, who grades it from my base pattern and runs it for wholesale.
That process taught me everything.
After 13 years in tech — including almost six years at Amazon — I understood systems, operations, and how to scale things efficiently. What I didn’t understand was apparel. I learned it the hard way: factory conversations I wasn’t prepared for, tech pack requirements I didn’t know existed, sampling rounds that took longer and cost more than I expected, decisions where the wrong call costs real money.
SÔZ Studios Atelier exists because that learning curve is brutal and completely avoidable with the right guidance.
I’m not a consultant who studied the industry. I’m a founder who built inside it — and I’m still building. Every client I work with gets that firsthand knowledge applied directly to their project.
If you’re serious about building something real, I’d like to help.
